News: DL da Arsun discusses Birth of Built 2 Grind Empire
Vallejoans have a difficult time these days searching for good news. With schools closing, foreclosure rates rising and a dwindling police force what does the city have we can be proud about. The local news organization recently had a chance to show the people that the heart of a proclaimed dying city still beats strong, but it failed. That opportunity came from one man in Vallejo who has helped others keep their heads high through hip hop presenting a positive message of chasing your dreams, working hard and never giving up. Drew Lago aka DL da Arsun has been active with music since the fifth grade at Dan Mini Elementary school and on through his high school days at Vallejo Senior High. Now 30, DL is watching the sparks finally ignite with his Built2Grind label, clothing line and forthcoming magazine steadily heating up and expanding past barriers that doubters have placed. “ I have to strike while the irons hot,” DL said. “ People are talking about us, I feel this is the time where we really have to go all in and grind our hardest.” Never content to sit still, or even sleep, DL constantly pushes himself to the limits placing down bricks of his foreseen empire. DL said earlier this year he decided to put his label name on a hoody. Friends saw the design and also wanted to sport it. Soon friends of friends caught hold of it as well as complete strangers appreciating the message of Built2Grind. All of a sudden he had trouble keeping sweaters in stock with demands so high from the public.
