Occupy Oakland is a series of demonstrations including the occupation of public spaces that began in downtown Oakland. The movement is reclaiming public spaces to use as a forum for the people to come together, meet one another, and build power for themselves. The evening of October 25, 2011 protesters tried to reclaim the site, and clashes between police and protesters resulted in multiple injuries. Over 100 people were arrested. Scott Olsen, an Iraq war veteran, suffered a skull fracture allegedly caused by a police projectile.
